Amulya's father says his 'pro-Pakistan' slogans hurt the feelings of all Indians, but 'worth the opportunity'


Amulya Leona's father Oswald Noronha on Saturday said his statements during a protest against the Citizens (Amendment) of Bengaluru were "unacceptable" and "hurt the feelings of all Indians". Speaking to IndianExpress.com, Noronha said her family was not in favor of this, but "deserves a chance to fix it".

During a rally in town on Thursday, 19-year-old Amulya raised the slogan of "Pakistan Zindabad". He was arrested the next day and sent to 14 days.

“What Amulya has done is unacceptable. My family and I would not agree with his statement ... it hurt the feeling of all Indians, ”said Sononha. "You now make the mistake of composing a controversial statement that has hurt everyone, but you also have the opportunity to correct it."

On Thursday night, Noronha, a farmer and environmental activist from the Gubbagudde area of ​​Koppa township in Chikkamagaluru district, filed a complaint with police after his house was vandalized by miscreants. District police have now deployed three police officers to their residence.

“The walls and doors of my house are damaged. I was alone at the time of the incident as my wife had left Bengaluru at the time, ”he said.

He said he was overwhelmed by the masses of people that night and were forced to lift slogans of "Bharat Mata ki Jai". Various Hindu organizations also held a series of protests in Chikkamagaluru district against Amulya on Friday.

Nononha owns the areca leaves near her house and the poultry farm. He is actively involved in environmental and political activities in the region. He has been a follower of H G Govinde Gowda, also known as the Malenada Gandhi district. He is a Gandhian and Education Minister of Karnataka.

“Join me and work for BJP leaders such as D N Jeevaraj and Shobha Karandlaje during their elections. In the 2018 assembly elections, I supported Govinde Gowda's son Venkatesh, when he was running for election in Sringeri district for the JD (S) ticket, ”Noronha said.

Amulya's father was an environmental activist and participated in Appiko Chaluvali, a southern Chipko organization founded by Pandurang Hegde in 1983 to save trees in the Western Ghats.

As an activist himself, Noronha said he was aware of Amulya's involvement and speeches in CAA protests.

“Even though he didn't tell me about his involvement in the protest, many of my friends phoned me and told me about his talks. In fact, 15 days ago, I went in person to see him deliver a talk and watched him closely. After this I learned that I had to take him to college and I told him not to miss classes by participating in the protest, ”he said.

“From her school days, she was a mature and intelligent girl and had been in the best classes. She got good grades in Grade 10 and showed good manners and made us proud of her, ”she said.

“He wanted to join the Arts at the PUC but I told him to take up science and join a college in Mysuru. Subsequently, according to her wish, she did a BA in Journalism, Psychology, and English at NMKRV College of Bengaluru.
